WHY MRS. IJEOMA FARIDAH WADA WILL BE A BETTER REPRESENTATIVE THAN A MALE COUNTERPART?
Here’s the support for this argument:
First, she will spend more time and effort communicating with her constituents than a male representative as a result of her good communication skills.
Second, She will deliver more government spending to her constituency than a male representative will do, being a mother who manages the home and an entrepreneur is an attestation to this fact.
Third, She will closely represent her constituents’ interests and needs when participating in the legislative process. She will introduce more bills related to policy areas that are important to her constituency.
There are other intuitive reasons why electing Mrs. Ijeoma is important. For example, electing Mrs. Ijeoma would likely increase the amount of time the House spends on “women/family issues” such as education, sexual harassment, family health care system, family welfare and family leave among other things. She will likely devote her time and energy to these issues, so electing her will increase the amount of pressure she can put on the House to take them up.
However, electing Mrs. Ijeoma is not simply about identity politics for women. Yes, electing her is important for women but she will take her constituency into account more than a male counterpart because she is a mother who understand the sufferings of her people.
Her present in the Green Chamber will give us a House that better represents Nigeria and its varied interests as a whole.
