Bafarawa declares for 2019 presidential race, says ‘Buhari is my student’

The former Governor of Sokoto state, Attahiru Bafarawa has formally declared his intention to run for the 2019 presidential election on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In an interview shortly after the declaration at his residence in Sokoto at the weekend he claimed to had brought President Muhammadu Buhari into politics.
"Politics is my profession. I am a grassroots politician spanning for over four decades.

He asserted:"President Buhari is my student. I brought him into politics. I gave him ticket to contest when I was the national chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party. Therefore I know how to run the affairs of the country and the party.”
Bafarawa, a one-time presidential candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), said the problem of Nigerians was allowing unprofessional politicians to run democratic government, apparently referring to President Buhari.
According to him, this was why there is total disregard to the manifesto of the party by political leaders.
He added that Nigerians were calling for restructuring because of the way and manner APC government was running the affairs of the country.
He explained that he delayed his declaration despite persistent calls from across the country because of the situation in the country and his party.
Earlier, Bafarawa told his supporters that he decided to contest because of his love for the people of the state but not because of PDP.

He however, urged them to unite in his support irrespective of their political differences.
